9/11

September 11th. I've seen many people post with a caption of “Never forget.” The Alamo has a very similar tagline as well, but truthfully, all I really know about the Alamo is to remember it. I think we have already forgotten both. It's been 19 years. This tragedy has been an adult for over a year now. People make the obligatory social media post on this day. We've regurgitated the “Never Forget” into the echo chamber. But I think we’ve already forgotten. We've forgotten how America felt after 9/11. We were in this together. We talked to our neighbors. People put flags in front of their houses.

My mom is a flight attendant, and at that time New York was her usual destination. When it happened, I remember people calling the house to see if she was on the plane. She knew the people on that plane. I could have been half an orphan 19 years ago, instead I’m an average person who takes her mom for granted.

It broke my heart when people didn't post for the Fourth of July. And yes, caring about Instagram posts is probably the most asinine thing. But it's the only way I can guestimate where people are. The top ten populated countries in order are; China, India, United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia, and Mexico. Of those countries, we have a better standard of living by far. The countries that most people spout on about, claiming to be better than America, are countries with one-fourth of the population of America. And mo’ people, mo’ problems.

So yeah, never forget.
